All enquires about OUA end of study period exams should be directed to the OUA Examinations unit. Monash, UniSA & CQU External students: External (non-OUA) students studying with Monash, UniSA or CQU do not need to make a booking. Your University will provide us with a candidate list prior to the exams. Other Students: Other students should contact us to discuss your requirements. Do you invigilate individual exams?Yes. We do invigilate exams for individual students. The costs are higher than it is to attend one of our exam centres and you should contact us to discuss your situation.Do you invigilate language exams?Yes we do. However, due to the nature of the language exams we are unable to do so at our exam centres. All candidates sitting a language exam must make arrangements to sit as an individual student and you should contact us to discuss your situation.Do you invigilate online exams?Yes we do. Numbers are limited however so bookings should be made early. It may not be possible for you to sit an online exam at one of our exam centres so you should contact us to discuss your situation.Exam starting and finishing times.I am running late for my exam. Can I still sit my exam?Yes. You will be allowed to enter the exam room late. How late you be and still be allowed entry varies from University to University but is usually 30 or 60 minutes. After this time however you will be denied entry to the exam venue. Note that no extra time will be allowed to complete the exam. Please check with your university for specific details.I am running late for my exam. Should I still attend?Yes. While you will not be allocated any extra time due to your late arrival, you will be able to submit your paper even if you do not complete it. Depending on the unit you are studying, you may accumulate enough marks to pass your unit even if you do not fully complete (or even fail) your exam.I am running late for my exam. Will I get any extra time to complete it?No. No extra time will be allocated if you are late to your exam.My exam is listed at starting at 9am but it has reading time as-well. Does it start at 9 or at 8:50?Reading time (if any) for your exam will usually begin at the listed time. Working time will commence after that. For example, if your are doing a 2 hour exam that has 10 minutes of reading time listed to start at 9am.9:00 – Start of reading time 9:10 – Start of exam – writing commences 11:10 – End of exam CQU Candidates: For candidates sitting a CQU exam, reading time will occur BEFORE the listed start time. For example, if your exam is listed as starting at 9:00am and your exam has a 10 minute reading time, reading time will commence at 8:50am. How early should I arrive at the exam venue?You should aim to arrive at the exam venue at-least 15 minutes prior to the listed start time. Seating will usually commence 10 to 15 minutes before the scheduled start time. For exams with large numbers of students, seating may commence 20 minutes prior to the listed start time.If I finish the exam early, can I leave?At the beginning and end of each exam there is a period of time (usually 30 minutes) where students may not leave the exam venue for any reason. Outside of this time you will be permitted to leave once you have completed your exam. Different universities have different lengths of time for the quarantine periods so specific enquiries should be directed to your university.My university lists a different start time to the SEQIN website. Which is correct?Your exam will start at the time listed on the SEQIN website.Exams - During the examHow do I ask the invigilator a question?Raise your hand and your invigilator will come to you.If I finish the exam early, can I leave?At the beginning and end of each exam there is a period of time (usually 30 minutes) where students may not leave the exam venue for any reason. Outside of this time you will be permitted to leave once you have completed your exam. Different universities have different lengths of time for the quarantine periods so specific enquiries as to the length of time should be directed to your university.What if I need to visit the restroom?During the quarantine period at the beginning and end of the exam you will not be permitted to leave the venue. Outside of these times, let an invigilator know and you will be escorted to the restrooms.What if I feel sick during the exam?Let your invigilator know. If you need to leave the room you will usually be permitted to do so but be aware that you will not be allowed any extra time to complete your exam. If you are unable to complete your exam you will need to contact your university to determine if any further action or consideration can be given to you.What if I have a query about one of the questions on the exam?Let your invigilator know. Your invigilator will not be able to help you directly (for example, with the meaning of a word or question) however in some circumstances your invigilator can contact your University for clarification. You may alternatively be directed to note your assumptions down on the paper and answer the question accordingly. Regardless of the actions the invigilator may take, do not stop and wait for an answer. Proceed with another question and come back once you have an answer to your query.What if I have a complaint about the exam venue?If you have a complaint about the exam venue, for example noise during the exam, let your invigilator know. He or she will file a report to your university outlining your concerns. You should also contact your university directly after the exam to register your concerns. If it is a situation that your invigilator can do something about then all reasonable efforts will be made to correct the situation.Can I move desks during the exam?If you need to move desks during the exam (for example you are sitting under an A/C vent and have a cold) then ask your invigilator. If it can be done without disruption to other students then you will usually be allowed to do so.Exams – General Questions.What do I need to bring to the exam?You need to bring your own writing implements and other stationary to the exam.Make sure that you bring spare pens/pencils and a pencil sharpener with you. If your pen runs out or your pencil breaks during the exam then you are out of luck. The university will show no mercy if you do not complete your exam because your pen ran out. Your invigilator MAY have a spare that you can borrow so by all means ask, but remember that they are under no obligation to do so, or that any spares they do have may already be taken by other students. Students should note that universities are often quite specific about the type of pencil used to fill in multiple choice answer sheets. If your exam has a multiple choice element then you should check what type of pencil to take with your university. If your exam permits the use of calculators then students should bring their own. It is up to the student to ensure that their calculator complies with any restrictions imposed by the exam. If the calculator brought does not comply with the exam requirements then it will be confiscated by the invigilator. Your invigilator MAY have a spare if you forget but this should not be relied upon. You will NOT be permitted to use your mobile phone, PDA or any other device as a calculator. If your exam permits the use of a dictionary then students should bring their own. It is up to the student to ensure that their dictionary complies with any restrictions imposed by the exam. If the dictionary brought does not comply with the exam requirements then it will be confiscated by the invigilator. Your invigilator will not have a spare that you could borrow, nor will be able to answer questions on spelling and grammar. You will NOT be permitted to use a mobile phone, PDA or other device as a dictionary. When should I submit my Invigilator Nomination form?Your university will nominate a cut off date for the lodgement of Invigilator Nomination forms. You should lodge these forms with us at-least two business days prior to this deadline so we can process and return the forms before the due date.How do I check if you have received my exam paper?We generally receive exam papers 7 – 14 days before the date of the exam. You can email us a week before your exam is due we will let you know if we have it.I want to change when I sit my exam.We are unable to alter when you sit your exam. You must apply directly to your provider university if you want to change the date or time of an exam. If you have already registered to sit an exam with us and you later make changes to your timetable there is no need to let us know as we will be notified by your University.I want to change where I sit my exam.For individual students – Contact us as early as possible to discuss the change of location. Note that you may incur extra costs related to changing/hiring venues (if needed) or if there are any increased travel costs for the invigilator.For students attending an exam centre – Depending on the rules for your particular university, it may be possible for you to sit your exam at a different location as an individual student. You should contact us as early as possible to discuss your requirements. Be aware however that the costs for sitting an exam at a location other than an exam centre is higher, and you will be liable for the increased costs. In addition, you will be responsible for the costs of hiring a venue (if needed). I have withdrawn from my course. Do I need to cancel my booking?OUA Final Exams:No. You do not need to cancel your booking with us. CQU / Monash / UniSA External Students: No. You do not need to cancel your booking with us. Other Students: Students who have arranged an individual examination with will need to cancel your booking. Your University/Provider will not notify us if you withdraw from a unit, so if you have made a booking with us for that unit then you need to let us know. If you do not let us know atleast 48 hours prior to your exam then you will still be charged the full examination fee. If ou are unsure if you need to cancel your booking or not, please contact us. I did not attend my exam, do I still need to pay for it? Yes. We require atleast 48 hours notice for an exam cancellation. I wish to cancel your supervision of my exam. How do I do it? We require atleast 48 hours notice for an exam cancellation. If you do not let us know atleast 48 hours prior to your exam then you will still be charged the full examination fee. If you wish to cancel your exam please contact us. Please be aware that we will not notify your parent institution. You will need to contact them directly to arrange another invigilator. Also be sure to allow enough time for your exam papers to be sent to your new invigilator by your parent University. |
